Strengthen Body and Spirit

Summer programs at Xian Yun CA is the perfect place for young people to nurture a passion for the arts and culture. Beginners to advanced artists and performers ages 5 to 17 from all around the world, come to Xian Yun Academy of the Arts California arts camp to experience serious arts but with fun. Through individual guidance and support from professional artist-educators, students will be challenged to learn new skills while developing aesthetic sophistication in a positive and supportive environment.

Xian Yun CA has the 32,000 square feet newly remodeled facility next door to the beautiful Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Every week, all students will go the Golden Gate Park or other scenic spots together for a BBQ/picnic to enjoy wholesome summer fun and make new friends through games and activities. The low student-to -teacher ratio ensures that students receive individualized attention to ignite a lasting passion for the arts.

 

Children’s Dance Camp (Ages 6-8) (Girls/Boys)

Age 6-8 Girls and Boys

9am – noon, Monday - Friday

$680 per session

Program Description

In this introductory program to Classical Chinese dance, young dancers are taught basic dance skills and Chinese dance terminology. Through a professional, systematic training approach designed to be challenging and rewarding, students will come away from the program with a strong dance foundation and improved posture, coordination, and dexterity. Each session will conclude with a schoolwide performance to showcase the students’ achievements.

Daily and weekly classes include:

  • Flexibility: Safe, effective stretching methods to improve dexterity and range of motion
  • Dance Fundamentals: Basic training in dance movements, posture, and placement through a series of short routines targeting movements in specific parts of the body, including the hands, eyes, and torso
  • Tumbling: Basic tumbling skills including cartwheel, handstand, bridge, and conditioning
  • Ethnic/Folk Dance: Various Chinese ethnic and folk dance forms, including Mongolian, Tibetan, and Uyghur dance

Boys’ Dance Camp

Age 9+

12:30-3:30pm, Monday-Friday

$680 per session

This program is open to boys of all experience levels. Focus will be on the proper development of basic dance technique and fostering an appreciation for artistry and performance. Daily and weekly classes include: Dance Fundamentals (Flexibility, barre routines, center routines, jumps and turns); Tumbling (Handstand, bridge & back exercises, walkovers, cartwheel); and Performance (Classical Chinese dance and/or ethnic/folk dance). All students will participate in the session-end showcase.

Program Objectives

Age 6-8 is a perfect time for children to develop their potential. Dancing helps improve their physical fitness and increases their flexibility, builds up their teamwork skills, self-confidence, and perseverance, as well as promoting children's learning ability and aesthetic sense.

Youth Dance Intensive (Girls, Ages 9-11)

9:00am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday (Half day option also available)
$1380 per full-day session; $700 per half-day session 

Program Description

This program is designed for the budding dancer who is driven to succeed and seeks to take her dance skills to the next level.  Training at this level emphasizes proper development of basic dance technique, strength, and flexibility, while fostering a love for artistry and expression. Students will come away from the program with refined skills and artistry as well as a stronger commitment to dance.

Daily and weekly classes include:

  • Dance Fundamentals: Flexibility, barre routines, center routines, and jumps and turns.
  • Tumbling: Basic to intermediate tumbling skills, including handstand, bridge & back exercises, front/back walkovers, cartwheel, and aerial
  • Bearing and Form: Called shenyun shenfa in Chinese, this is a training regimen unique to Classical Chinese dance. Designed to train dancers to grasp the “feeling” or inner essence of Chinese dance, its system of basic element routines emphasize the coordination of breath, physical movement, and spirit.
  • Performance: Training in stage presentation and artistry that culminates with a short or full-length dance for the session-end showcase.

Program Objectives

This intensive camp aims to improve the quality of students’ muscles and leg and back flexibility as well as cultivate the students’ artistic temperaments. Dancing can promote development of children's physical and mental health. Over the course students will master more enhanced technical skills that in turn increase their interest in dance.

Youth Performing Arts Camp (Ages 9-18)

This dance camp is for dancers who are passionate about dance performances and also would like to learn choreographic techniques.

Program Description

This program is open to students of all experience levels. In this camp, students will learn the basics of Classical Chinese dance as well as several Chinese ethnic or folk dance forms. Students will have the opportunity to choreograph their own dance pieces and perform a full-length dance during the session-end showcase.

Daily and weekly classes include:

  • Dance Fundamentals: Flexibility, barre routines, center routines, and jumps and turns.
  • Ethnic/Folk Dance: Various Chinese ethnic and folk dance forms, including Mongolian, Tibetan, Uyghur, and Yunnan Lantern.
  • Choreography: An opportunity for students to choreograph their own pieces under the guide of dance instructors.
  • Performance: Full-length dance and/or story-based dance for the session-end showcase.

Pre-Professional Dance Intensive Camp (Ages 11-18)

9:00am – 3:30pm, Monday-Friday
$1400 per session

Program Description

This program is designed for the experienced dancer who is dedicated and disciplined. With six hours of intensive training in advanced skills each day, students refine their technique and artistry and gain a deeper understanding of Classical Chinese dance and traditional Chinese culture and values.

Daily and weekly classes include:

  • Dance Fundamentals: Flexibility, barre routines, center routines, and technical skills (leaps, jumps, turns, flips)
  • Tumbling: Intermediate to advanced tumbling skills, including front/back walkovers, aerial, front aerial, tumbling combinations, and other advanced techniques
  • Bearing and Form: Called shenyun shenfa in Chinese, this is a training regimen unique to Classical Chinese dance. Designed to train dancers to grasp the “feeling” or inner essence of Chinese dance, its system of basic element routines emphasize the coordination of breath, physical movement, and spirit.
  • Performance/Repertoire: Training in stage presentation and artistry that culminates with a set of full-length dances for the session-end showcase.

Program Objectives

The intensive will enhance student’s technical skills and advanced basic training, bearing and form as well as difficult tumbling techniques. Students will be able to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of Chinese dance while at the same time train their ability to persevere. Through the training, students not only will enhance their technical skills, but also come to understand more the traditional Chinese culture and values.

Additional Information & Fees

  • Weekly field trips to nearby parks for BBQ/Picnic (meals and transportation included)
  • Free early drop off after 8:30am.
  • Extended afterschool education programs from 4:00-6:00pm
  • Extended before school activities from 7:30-8:30am $6 per day.
  • Lunch $6 per day (Monday to Thursday).
  • Nutritious lunch buffet $6 per day (Monday to Thursday)
  • New student registration fee $50.
  • Performing arts and visual arts camp tuition includes $30 fee for costume rental or art supplies.
  • Students in Textile Art & Design Camp must bring own fabric.
  • 10% early bird discount if registered before 3/20/2017 (with 20% deposit paid). Deposit will not be refundable in case of student withdrawal.
